More about us

Joe (Owner - NAUI, SDI, ERDI Instructor)

When I was growing up watching The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau, I knew that someday I was going to dive.  The first thing I did once I was driving and working, was sign up for a scuba course.  I remember like it was yesterday my first time in the water in that class.  It was an incredible experience and I knew I was hooked.  Diving the wrecks and waters off Long Island was where you would have found me back then.  Or I may have been hanging out at the dive shop.  You may have heard the term dive shop groupie.  A few years later, I became an instructor and worked in the very shop where I took my first class.  Later on I accepted a job as a firefighter in South Florida.  The firefighter schedule was ideal since it allowed me to remain working in the dive industry.  If I was not at the fire station there was a good chance that I was either diving the reefs and wrecks off the coast, or working at a local dive shop.  I was also a member of the fire department Dive Accident Recovery Team.  For most of this time I was the Dive Team Coordinator.  Hence the ERDI affiliation with the shop.  Now I train others to do emergency response diving.

After 20 years of service, I retired from the fire department as a Lieutenant and moved back up north.  I worked with a shop north of here, and soon the time was right for me to open my own dive shop.  I have instituted the programs I have used along the way along with some that I have been storing in my head for years to pass on this incredible sport to the people of Northeast Pennsylvania.  I do so with the passion of that little kid in front of the TV watching Jacques Cousteau.

One of the wonderful things about scuba diving by the way, is the wide variety of activities within the sport.  I enjoy many of them and it is always a great feeling to pass them along to my students.  I also enjoy providing opportunities for divers to take the plunge as much as possible, all year long.  This repetition along with their training is what makes comfortable, competent divers, and these are the divers that stand to have the most fun.  After all, fun is the reason most of us get into this sport.  I love sharing my passion for diving so feel free to contact me anytime.

Take care and as NAUI says "JUST DIVE"

Somewhere off the coast of South Florida around the late eighties.
